Moving to Gloucester
Got a job in the city starting in July. Anyone know the area (hoping glosterhammer is still there) and if so where are the best primary schools and who should my boys second team be?

Think Johnson lives up that way?

I used to work in Stroud so know that area reasonably well but no idea about schools, sorry. Stroud prides itself on being a bit bohemian. Which basically means white people with dreadlocks and dogs on a bit of string. Some decent boozers, mind, although everyone is obsessed with cider.

Some cracking scenery in a that neck of the woods also.

Stroud is a surprisingly good night out tbf.

Re: Moving to Gloucester
There are a number of good schools dotted about, depends where you're living and hence the catchment area.

For a second team, Gloucester is a rugby city, so can it be GLAWSTER?

If it has to be a football team, Cheltenham are terrible, and the ground is pretty soulless. Forest green rovers are worth a look. Currently based in nailsworth near Stroud. Owned by a rich vegan, they're building a wooden stadium and all the food is vegan. It does sound a bit odd and new age, but they get decent support and it's a decent day out

Re: Moving to Gloucester
And if you've got some money to do the move, consider potentially living in Cheltenham and commuting to Glos. It's only about 15 mins, but Cheltenham is a lot nicer for the most part

Re: Moving to Gloucester
Surprising amount of Leeds fans live around Cheltenham and Bristol. Absolutely no idea why.

Re: Moving to Gloucester
Gooders - If you’re job is in the city then places like Abbeymead, Abbeydale, Barnwood, Hucclecote and Brockworth are good commutes.

Brockworth especially or the Cooper Edge development behind it have a couple of good primaries. The Abbotswood estate In Brockworth has a primary on it, which is good from what I know and you’ll be 20 mins from Glos and 25 mins from Cheltenham.

As for football team’s Gloucester City are returning to the stadium next year I think behind the Docks so get them in to them - I’ll be going to watch a few of their games once that’s all set up.

If you’ve got specific questions then feel free to email, I don’t have kids or hang about the schools but can try and ask about for you if you have specifics in mind.

It’s a great part of the world and closer and quicker to London than you think once the new trains go live properly.

Bristol, Birmingham and Cardiff all within the hour so plenty to do with the nippers or a night out with the wife once you’re settled.

Re: Moving to Gloucester
Thanks for the advice. Going to be working just south of the city on Stroud Road so both Abbeymead and Abbeydale look like good shouts. Going to be renting a place first so we will have to see what's available, but it's definitely going to be cheaper than where we are in Surrey at the moment.

They’ll be a good bet for there. Avoid Matson and Coney Hill.

Anywhere round the Turmot Hoer pub would be good.

Check out for flooding zones in Gloucester before you buy. It is rather prone to getting damp.
Sir Geoff Hurst lives not far away in Cheltenham. Pop round to his place and he will sell you his autograph.

Cheers Penner's. Traveling down to look around next week but haven't been to Gloucester for at least 20 years. Got a good job at one of the grammar schools down there but know my youngest (9) will not make the cut so need a decent primary first which feeds into a good comprehensive. Oh and a decent football team for my ten year old to develop in until he is ready to replace Declan Rice.

My old dear lives near Hardwicke. Im a stonehouse boy in truth, but went 6th form in tredworth.

STROUD is the place to be though. Was gutted when the old girl moved out the sticks

Re: Moving to Gloucester
Stroud has got to be worth a look I think. What would the commute into middle of Gloucester be? 25 minutes?
